Vacation in Brighton Village

Found on the South Coast of Britain , Brighton is one of the cities in the county of Essex that together with a number of other cities and hamlets is known generally as the town of Brighton and Howe. This area was inhabited in traditional times and appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086. In 1514, the buildings in the city were burned by the invading French armed forces and only a tiny portion of the hamlet escaped the fire – St. Nicholas Church and the area now called the Lanes.

Brighton changed into a preferred beach resort in the 18th century as the concept of holidaying outside of the town took hold with the wealthier members of the populace of Britain . It was known as a health resort thanks to the fact the doctor here was prescribing seawater as a remedy for many common infirmities. Georgian patios were built in the 1780′s and what had once been a quiet small fishing town changed into a mecca for travellers. The town grew swiftly after it received the Royal Patronization of the Prince Regent, King George IV, who paid a visit to the resort in 1783.

The arriving of the railway to Brighton in 1841 meant that this was now more accessible from London and as a consequence many Londoners took the rail to the city as a short break. A lot of them made a decision to make an abiding move to Brighton seeing that they could commute backwards and forwards to work. The growth was in population was exceptional in the 19th century. In 1801, the population was 7000 and by 1901 there were more than 120,000 folk living in this area.

Boundary increases in the second part of the 18th century increased the dimensions of Brighton as well and new housing developments were started to deal with the rising population.

1928 saw major enlargement in the scale of the city with the incorporation of one or two tiny local towns, like Patcham, Ovingdean and Rottingdean. There are numerous significant landmarks in this city going back to an earlier time in history.

St. Nicholas Church was built in the 11th century and is the oldest building in the city. Despite the incontrovertible fact that there are 2 other churches in Brighton – St. Peter’s and St. Bartholomew’s, the city has the reputation of being the “least religious” place in the United Kingdom. This is because of the results of the 2001 census in which it was disclosed that just over one quarter of the populace don’t confess to have any faith in any way. Along the seafront there are bars, restaurants, dives and entertainment colonnades offering a treasure house of entertainment for all visitors. The sandy beach extends into the sea so you can feel the sand ooze between your toes when you step into the water.

Catering to all visitors, there’s a nudist section on the beach and it is an entrance point to Sovereign’s Way, one of the long-distance hiking routes of the United Kingdom.
