Consequential village with black and white homes all the way back to the 16th century, old training Hotels , apple orchards for regionally produced farm cider brewed to centuries old recipes, and bizarre named towns like Mansell Gamage, Lugwardine and Stretton Sugwas, this is all part of Herefordshire one of Britain’s most agricultural counties.

Herefordshire lies to the far west of Britain next to the Welsh border. It is seldom visited by visitors from overseas but definitely worth a visit on your next trip to Britain .

Here’s a list of some of the places to see here :

HEREFORD : The important town of Hereford on the banks of the Brook Wye has a Norman cathedral that goes back to the XI century.

This is an energetic and prospering town with an ‘olde world’ middle of narrow streets with tiny shops focusing on all sorts of quality products. There’s also a good walk by the riverbank and fine Hotels, Cafes and hostels.

LEDBURY : This small market city is one of the most pretty cities in all of Britain . The center is made of half timbered 16th century black and white buildings. In Church Lane you’d think you have been transported back to this time with its cobbled street and important buildings.

WEOBLEY : This town (recounted Webley) is a place lost in time. It is formed up essentially of 16th century black and white buildings with an old Hotel dating back centuries named ‘Ye Olde Salutation Inn’. The name Weobley springs from the word ‘Wibbas Ley’ and employed in the Doomsday Book as ‘Wibelah’.

LEOMINSTER : This Market city that dates as far back as the 7th century is situated in the north of the county. Everything including a number concentrating on Antiques. With its many hotels, and fine Hotels this is definitely worth a visit.

PEMBRIDGE : Another ‘Olde English’ town with 16th century black and white homes. The church of St Mary goes back to the 14th century. The old market hall is from 1520 and the ‘New Inn’ from the 17th century. If you visit this place one day be certain to see ‘Ye Olde Steppes’ that was possibly a rectory from the 1500s to the 1700s.This building takes the name from the old steps that begin at the market hall and lead straight up to the churchyard. These are just one or two of the engaging places to go to in this area there is way more to see like Ross on Wye spectacularly situated above the Wye brook and Symond’s Yat in the Wye valley.

THE SKIRRID Hotel : While visiting this area you need to take a tiny detour south of Hereford along the A465 towards Abergavenny. As you cross the border into Wales just off the main road in the town of Llanfihangel Crucorney lies the ‘The Skirrid Inn’ which is the oldest bar in Wales. This Hotel dates as far back as the 11th century and is also honourably to be haunted.

The Hotel is named after the mountain that looms above. It was here that 180 bad guys between the 12th and 17th century were sentenced and hung. They met their grisly end at the creaky foot of the steps from a temporary gallows. Some visitors that come here for the glorious accommodation, fine ales, and great food bitch of lights going on and off, orbs floating in the air, and other creepy phenomenon. So why not end your holiday with a genuine ale and a homecooked meal here and hear stories that many believe might be true!

About twenty miles to the west of Hereford is a city that everybody interested in books must visit. Hay On Wye is half in Wales and half in Britain and is legendary for its many fine secondhand bookshops that specialize generally in rare and antique papers from each writer you can think about. If you have dared to remain at the Skirrid Hotel there’s an impressive but extremely narrow mountain road beginning at Hay that takes you over the Gospel pass and thru the isolated Vale of Ewyas back onto A465 Hereford to Abergavenny road. But this route isn’t recommended during the winter months due to bad weather. If you plan a trip here one day while visiting London, why don’t you hire a vehicle and travel the picturesque route along the old A40 that bypasses famous place like Oxford, The Cotswolds and Gloucester to Ross on Wye and see a corner of Britain just like you read in those old history books of your schooldays.

The landscape of England is various in variety, from its heritage shore and inland waterways, to the open moorlands and countrywide parks of superb beauty.

A train holiday can be consisting of rail travel as a system of transport between destinations, a day excursion or a vacation on board for the set period of a holiday. Each system offers the possibility for the exploration and admiration of the English country.

From the south-east to the south-west, the cross-country express from Paddington station, London to Penzance in Cornwall operates a regular service. The foreign visitor can arrive at Gatwick or Heathrow airfield and travel direct to the West Country, and view the ever changing views en-route.

Go by train and book your train accommodation. Try an alternative choice to hostels and bed and breakfasts and hire a converted carriage, with country perspectives, for a calming break with a difference. An excursion on the Bure Valley Train line in Norfolk, for an eighteen mile round trip along the fifteen in. gage line. Explore the Bure Valley country and quaint towns, for a noteworthy and easy going afternoon out of doors.

The Orient Express operates a varied itinerary excursions, including the North Belle taking passengers to Windermere from Leeds, Manchester and York, and the British Pullman visits a range of locations from the resort city of Folkestone and Leeds Castle in Kent. Attention to the dress code is needed for all who board the Orient Express ; smart casual only no jeans or trainers authorized. Travel and dine in style on a picturesque tour. As well as traveling by train, Britain is home to a spread of museums and places of interest devoted to the heritage of the railways and its significance in history.

Destination UK for the entire holiday, with the focus on rail travel thru the country. If the concept of rail travel and rail accommodation is an appealing venture, then arrange a trip on board one of the steam trains that tours thru the near by states of Wales an Scotland.
